He proposed! We are engaged! And the wedding will be next month! I know that sounds really hasty, but once I tell you the story, you'll see that it fits us perfectly.
Craig has always wanted to be a husband and father and he's talked a lot about marriage this past summer, but I wouldn't allow him to propose until we had been dating for at least a year. Our one-year anniversary is next month, so this past week we have been talking a lot about our future together.
I've always wanted to get married in either June or August. They are two months with no other significant holidays that would have to compete with my wedding anniversary. So, we can either get married next month or we can wait until next June. I've never been known for my patience, so after working out the finances, we decided on next month.
Craig is on-call for his work every other weekend, so there were two possible weekends to have the wedding in August. We just found out that Craig's sister is getting married on the first available weekend, so we set the date for the next available weekend, August 18, 2007!
Okay, I realize that at this point in my story, we have the date set, but Craig still hasn't proposed. Well, I actually had this awful nightmare that I was forced to get married in blue jeans. Silly, I know, but I didn't want to make the wedding plans official until I had my dress. Well, we just bought my dress this weekend! It is beautiful! I can hardly wait to wear it again.
So, after an eventful weekend of wedding planning and dress shopping, we were at our apartment in Midvale, spending a typical evening together. I was talking about the wedding and all the things we had to accomplish over the next few weeks when Craig took my hand and knelt down next to our bed. As he slipped the ring on my hand, he asked if I would be his wife. It was incredible. I just started laughing. I'm so excited. I said yes and now it's official. We're engaged!
It was so romantic...in our own little way.
