I was looking through some of Craig's old pictures that he had saved to his last computer. Most were taken before I met him, but there were a few from the very beginning of our relationship. I figure this is a good excuse to tell our story...
At the beginning of August 2006 I was dating a guy from college, Scott. He was leaving for vacation to the Netherlands for just over two weeks starting August 6th. This happened to be the same day that I checked my MySpace account and found a month-old message from Craig. Craig used to date my best friend in high school, but I hadn't even heard about him since he graduated in 2004. For some reason, he decided to message me to see what I was up to and to ask me out for drinks. My boyfriend was kind of being a jerk, so I texted him back using the number he had given me on MySpace. I figured I could use some entertainment while my boyfriend was gone. We instantly hit it off!
"Date" 1
The first time I hung out with Craig was August 9th. I agreed to meet for coffee so we could catch up with each other. Since I didn't want this to be a real date, (I did still have a boyfriend) I told him that I would meet him there and I planned on paying for myself. That's not exactly how it worked. Craig went off on this argument that since we were going all the way to Sugarhouse it was silly to take two cars and since he already knew where I lived he might as well give me a ride. Eventually I gave in. Next thing I knew he took me out to a movie (Talladega Nights) and then to coffee. Afterwards we walked around just talking for quite awhile. I was falling for him. I didn't feel right about breaking up with Scott over email, so I made sure not to even kiss Craig until Scott got back.
That Saturday Craig saved me from a really lame party. We ended up spending the majority of Sunday together.
"Date" 2
On August 16, Craig invited me to go to the Phil Vassar concert at the State Fair with him. I wasn't really into country music at that point so I had no idea who Phil Vassar was, but I jumped at the chance to see Craig again. I had so much fun with him. It was getting really hard not to kiss him by this point, but I still had a week to go before I could talk to Scott.
That Saturday I went with Craig on his work party up to Jordanelle. His boss owned a boat, so he drove each of his employees and their guests around the lake as we played on his many toys. They all wanted to see him try knee boarding, but that was impossible unless they found someone else that could drive the boat. My parents have owned a boat for years, so I offered and he took me up on it. I loved the chance to show off for Craig and his coworkers. His boss even said that I did a really good job.
Finally, Scott got back to the US, so I went to his place to chat. He said that he had guessed it. I guess my lack of attention during his trip triggered something. Anyway, I was free from that relationship, so I drove straight to Craig's house. He was waiting for me in the front yard. As soon as I got out of my car, Craig kissed me!
Since I first texted Craig on the 6th we haven't gone a day without talking to each other. It's been over 5 years now. It's amazing how one little message on MySpace led me to finding and marrying my very own Prince Charming!
